Glossary of abbreviations

FIMIT
Fellow of the Institute of Musical Instrument Technology. The objectives of the IMIT are: the advancement of musical instrument technology through the exchange of information and ideas, and the promotion of the professional status of members engaged in musical instrument design, manufacture, repair and marketing. A Fellow has to have satisfied the IMIT Council of his/her eminence in the profession or of the importance and value of his/her services to musical instrument technology.
MPTA
Member of the Pianoforte Tuners Association. The Pianoforte Tuners' Association was founded in 1913 as a trade union, but was de-registered in 1972 to become a professional body. Since then its membership has gradually grown, proclaiming its commitment to improving standards, to the extent that since 1975 all applicants for membership must pass a theoretical and practical examination to prove their ability as qualified tuners or technicians.
LTCL
Licentiate of Trinity College London. A Licentiate standard of performance is equivalent to the performance component on completion of a full-time undergraduate course at a conservatoire or other higher education establishment.
UK
Abbreviation for the "United Kingdom".

Ampersand – symbol used commonly in place of the word "and".
HRH
His or Her Royal Highness – the formal way of addressing a Prince or Princess of the British Royal Family.

The British Broadcasting Corporation.
TV
Abbreviation for "television".
EMI
The Electrical and Musical Industries group. EMI is the world's largest independent music company.

The City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
